Subject Selection Guide

Overview
  • Students will use SchoolBridge to complete their subject selections for 2025.
  • Upon completion, parents/caregivers/whānau will be sent an automated email to confirm selections
  • All of the information about subjects (descriptions, assessments, costs etc.) are all available via the 'Learning Areas & Subjects' menu
  • Additional information about NCEA, Literacy/Numeracy, University Entrance and other Careers information can be found in the 'Additional Information' menu
  • The subject setup and information for each year level is below in the relevant year level section

Y9 Subject Selection (Year 8's in 2024)
  • Year 9 students in 2025 will take all of the following subjects:
EnglishMathScienceTe Ao TangataHauora
ArtsTechnologyTe Reo MāoriLiteracy/NumeracyForeign Language*
*Choice of: French, Japanese or Spanish*
  • All subjects are compulsory
  • All subjects run for the whole year
  • Students will have the choice of which of the three foreign languages they will study: French, Japanese or Spanish
  • Students will select their first choice foreign language, and one back up.
Y10 Subject Selection (Year 9's in 2024)
  • Year 10 students in 2025 will take all of the following compulsory subjects:

HauoraLiteracy/NumeracyEveryday Reo Māori
  • Year 10 students in 2025, will choose THREE options and ONE backup
  • All subjects run for the whole year (compulsory & options)
  • Year 10 students will choose from the following options from the Arts, Languages, Māori, Te Ao Tangata & Technology learning areas
  • Year 10 students can only choose one of the subjects with an asterisk (*)
  • Year 10 students can choose a second asterisk (*) subject as a backup
  • ^English Language^ is for students whose first language is NOT English

  • Year 11 students in 2025 will take the following THREE compulsory subjects:

  • Year 11 students in 2025 will choose THREE options and TWO backups
  • All subjects run for the whole year (compulsory & options)
  • Year 11 students will choose from the following options from a range of learning areas
  • Te Ao Tangata | Social Sciences
    • Year 11 students cannot take both  "Entrepreneurial Finance" and "Entrepreneurship & the Economy"
    • Year 11 students can choose the other subject as a backup
  • Technology
    • Year 11 students can only choose one of the Technology subjects with an asterisk (*)
    • Year 11 students can choose a second Technology subject with an asterisk (*) subject as a backup
  • ^English Language^ is for students whose first language is NOT English
