Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Glenn Wilson.
This course will appeal to students who already have 18 months of Japanese behind them and who are keen to deepen their knowledge of a fascinating language and culture. Students will develop their ability to read and write texts in Hiragana and Katakana, as well as some Kanji, and will become more adept at communicating about topics of immediate relevance to young people such as home and family, friends, daily life, school, interests and outings. Three of the four available achievement standards will be formally assessed during the course.

Pathway
Jobs where foreign language qualifications are useful include journalism, international relations, international aid and development, international business and marketing, transport and logistics, teaching, tourism and hospitality. However, whatever career path you choose, having a foreign language on your CV is likely to increase your value to potential employers. This is because learning a foreign language is thought to enhance people's problem-solving and communication skills and foster empathy and open-mindedness.
