Subject Description

This course is for migrant, refugee, and international students whose first language is not English. It is designed to support students in learning English as well as assisting them to achieve in their mainstream NCEA subjects at levels 1 - 3. 

Students will be assessed against the English Language Learning Progressions and assigned an English Language Class at an appropriate level to support their language learning.  At ELLP levels 1 – 2 the focus will be on accelerated English Language Learning across the curriculum. At ELLP level 3 students will also be supported to achieve the literacy and numeracy co-requisites for NCEA.  Students at ELLP level 4 will be supported to achieve the literacy requirements for University Entrance. English Language credits are offered at ELLP levels 1 - 4.

Note: Students should take English as well as English Language at NCEA level 1 (for students at ELLP levels 3 and 4).

Students at ELLP 1-2 are encouraged to purchase a subscription to online English language support that can be accessed at home or school.
