Classical Studies (Y12)
Subject Description
Students will examine the history and influences of Classical world through a range of case studies including an introduction to Greek mythology, the Trojan war, the influence of Athenian art and architecture, Roman society, politics and the assassination of Julius Caesar. Students will analyse primary classical evidence to identify and explore significant ideas, events and influences of the classical world. This course will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the classical world as well as their academic research and writing skills and will lead to level 3 Classics.
Recommended Prior Learning
There is open entry to both L2 and L3 Classics, but it can be helpful to previous study of other social sciences such as History or Geography, or other language rich subjects.

Pathway
Classics is a cross-discipline subject which covers aspects of literature, art history, architecture, philosophy and history. In Classics, students will develop a range of critical and conceptual thinking, source analysis and communication skills which are useful skills that can be applied to a range of careers and further study.
