Subject Description

Ākonga will develop both manual and digital skills and techniques within the areas of Design and Visual Communication, Design Technology, Digital Technologies, Fashion and Textile Design, and Nutrition and Food Technology. This will enable ākonga to discover how they can express their ideas through a design process in response to a design brief.
Ākonga will ideate, experiment, develop, respond to feedback, and reflect to improve and refine their ideas within a design process. This will result in a series of meaningful outcomes within a range of projects that link to the theme of whenua.
This course will prepare ākonga for Design and Visual Communication, Design Technology, Digital Technologies, Fashion and Textile Design, and Nutrition and Food Technology at Year 10. These subjects lead to an array of pathways at university level such as Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Science, Project Management, Industrial Design, Design for Social Innovation, Interaction Design, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Software Development, Animation and Visual Effects Design, Media Design, Fashion Design, and Food Technology.
